A Little About Me...I am a product of Fort Bend schools. I went to Lantern Lane Elementary, Quail Valley Jr. High (back when it was still called Jr. High), and graduated from Dulles High School in 1993.
I left Fort Bend for a little while to go off to college. I earned a BS in Mathematics from Howard Payne University in 1996. I also have a Master's Degree in Secondary Math Education from University of Houston. I am certified to teach Math and G/T in grades 6 - 12. I began teaching middle schoolers (now back in Fort Bend ISD) in 1997. A few years ago, I experienced a very sobering moment - I realized I started teaching before my current students were even born! :-) I am blessed with a beautiful and loving family - my husband Dwight, two daughters, and sons Black Velvet and Phantom Menace (Oriental Shorthair cats), Rusty (a Fluorescent Cornsnake), and Dusty (an Abbott Okeetee Cornsnake.) We lost our sweet Black Velvet to cancer in 2021 but will remember and love him forever. Teaching is an amazing profession that I love, and I gave a LOT of myself to my students, the parents, and my coworkers each year. I resigned from teaching in 2015 to be able to finally give my family my undivided attention. After a year off from teaching, I found that I missed working with students. In 2016, I started homeschooling my own daughter and I began my tutoring business. My days are full of amazing experiences guiding my students to math success! |
A few of my favorites...
I love Peanuts math cartoons.
Favorite ways to spend my "free time"
What am I doing when I am not writing lessons or tutoring and the kids are in bed or off playing with friends? I love to...
Read a book on my Kindle; See what I can find on Pinterest to create - cooking and sewing; Enjoy the Magnolia Spa Pedicure at Magnolia Day Spa (while reading a book on my Kindle); Jazzercise!; catch up on my favorite TV shows (thank goodness for Roku)...Once Upon a Time, Blacklist, NCIS, NCIS LA, NCIS NO, and Hawaii 5-0, or watch old episodes of Castle, The Mentalist, and my Sy-fy fave Warehouse 13; I love ALL things Disney; And yes, I am completely addicted to the games on Mangahigh.com!
My favorite teaching quote:
“I've come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom.
It's my daily mood that makes the weather.
As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child's life miserable or joyous.
I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration.
I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal.
In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or de-humanized.”
